That last conversation between Nina and Olivia was such a perfect summation of everything that they could be doing wrong.

I was so appalled. That conversation was absolutely chilling. How can the writers not see how wrong it was? A person who would throw away their family, their history, their memories, their identity for romantic love? Who thinks that's a good idea?

Wasn't there a literary tradition of men dying for love in poetry and novels a few hundred years ago? I didn't like that, either.

::headdesk:: Earlier this morning I was kind of rolling my eyes at someone (on That Ginormous Social Networking Site) who was touting his "work" which consisted of taking quotes and putting them on gradient backgrounds and printing them out on copier paper and selling them at some craft show, and one of the quotes was (paraphrasing, but close), "There is no kind of sharing that is as important as the kind of sharing that allows us to share our name."

And, I dunno, now that I type that, maybe it's some kind of statement about family in general (although I still disagree -- ask me about my "family" sometime), but when I first read it, my thought was, "Oh, dude, you mean the kind of 'sharing' that makes some woman give up her own name and take yours, right?" Which, you know, I don't want to belittle the relationships that happily married people have, not ever, but... ::hands::
