  • Had terrible back pain in the beginning of the year

  • Finally got a diagnosis for the skeletal defect that's been causing me chronic pain for 20 years, and with it, treatment that's made me feel better than I'd ever hoped

  • Accepted my limitations and replaced my standard luggage with a super-high-tech wheely case (thanks, [personal profile] heresluck!)

  • Fully committed to exercise as a way to feel better, letting go of previous exercise goals of increasing strength, mistressing the pull-up, and changing my body's shape

  • Added more dancing to my life, with all kinds of unexpected benefits, including a new community

  • Traded IBS-D for IBS-C. Yay?

  • Worked my ass off on other people's projects while not getting to move my own projects forward

  • Spent a year producing my first video for work, of which I am very proud, along with a carefully crafted promotional campaign, only to watch it crash and burn due to more pressing communications priorities

  • Had a really rotten time at work, actually

  • Celebrated 11 years with P.

  • Lost Marzipan

  • Got two new kitties, who are at last providing more pleasure than stress

  • Made only 3 vids, but I think one of them is among the best I've ever done (it's a Festivid, so you won't get to see it for a couple of weeks)

  • Got a tumblr

  • Got a Kindle

  • Posted less to my journals than ever before, and didn't really make up for it on tumblr and Twitter, either

  • Saw my local friends more often

  • Enjoyed Parks & Recreation, Orange is the New Black, and Orphan Black, but had my heart stolen by Welcome to Night Vale

  • Realized that the thing I am most fannish about right now is a podcast, which is unlikely to increase my vidding output anytime soon

  • Read a lot more genre fiction

  • Had my mind completely blown by Joan Slonczewski's A Door Into Ocean

  • Fell completely off the mindfulness wagon

  • Nevertheless, moved more deeply into a place of acceptance and comfort with my life

I don't make resolutions, but I am determined that 2014 will be better than 2013 on the health and work fronts, and I hope to continue deepening my connections to the important people in my life.

I am enjoying reading your year-end wrap-up posts very much. Happy New Year to all of you! ♥

Psst--appears to be some kind of markup error in the post. Maybe the third list item, not sure.

I am so HAPPY about the kitties. And the diagnosis and subsequent help. And the place of acceptance.

I am sorry about work and IBS of whatever type and Marzipan. The bitter with the sweet, as always.

Much love to you. I hope to be in better touch with you in the coming year as well...

I find that the mindfulness wagon is something one perennially falls off of, and gets back on again, and falls off of, and gets on again. Life as we know it. :-)

I send love and can't wait to see you in August!

I'm very glad that the good has mostly outweighed the bad. What a great health breakthrough you had!

Happy New Year! May it be full of good health and laughter (and vidding, somehow). <3

Getting to see you THREE TIMES (!!!) was one of the highlights of my year. I'm sorry so much of the year was rotten and frustrating for you, but it's wonderful to hear that things are looking up -- and that you have chosen to respond to the frustrations in ways that bring you peace.

I love you lots. ♥

It's entirely possible you posted about it and I missed it, since I've been so sporadic with reading when I'm really busy, but would you mind expanding (or pointing to a post) about the back pain diagnosis and fix? I'm at the end of my rope -- three years of this and with all the things I'm doing, I'm still not better, and in fact have developed new issues. I'm thinking about going to the spine clinic Killa went to here, but I have to see how things shake out with the new insurance I had to get, and see if I can afford physical therapy, which I'm sure will be part of the process.

I wonder if one could vid to WTNV, though? I think it would involve a reversal of the usual method, though, where one has visuals from the source and a soundtrack of one's own (so to speak) to having a soundtrack from the source and visuals of one's own (so to speak). It would require editing both, of course, but you could pick out a narrative thread or theme, perhaps, and then fancast it? It would require a shift in perspective from both vidder and watcher, but it would be immensely interesting.

What if you vidded to dialogue rather than music, though? You could pick out repeated instances of the line about Carlos' perfect hair, for instance? (I expect there are other topics, but I've never listened to it). Would that work if combined with a track? What about the dog park thing? I'm asking in the abstract, obviously, and interested in the challenges it might present to bring it to a point where it was both legitimately a representation of the action of the show (and recognisable as such) and a vid that a layman would recognise as being representative of the genre. It would have to be, I think, a privileging of the audio over the visual, but, but, but. Hmm. I bet Simon & Garfunkel's 'The Sound of Silence' would be a great song for a WTNV music vid though.

Here's hoping for 2014 to be a vast improvement on 2013 - happy birthday, too! :)
